Is the Apple iMac upgradable?

I'm thinking of purchasing an iMac this Christmas, I'm pretty happy with the specs for the 20-inch iMac, but I wouldn't mind upgrading it on a later date (as of right now I can't afford to purchase the Computer and the upgrades), I specifically want to upgrade to a 256mb graphics card and boost the ram up another gig.

The graphics card you should get with the computer you buy right now. While it my certainly be upgradeable, I'm not sure if it's user upgradeable (i.e., you'll need to goto an Apple store and maybe have it sent away to be changed). I could be wrong here though.

The RAM is upgradeable, to 3GB as of now.

Tip: know anyone who's a student or teach at a uni? If so, get them to goto the apple UK store and sign in to the education bit. They'll need to either be at a uni computer or VPN into the uni network, but you can get huge discounts.

Thanks, one more thing, can the Apple Store "tailor make" your iMac in terms of customising the specs on-site the way they do on the online store?

If you are thinking about upgrading then you have to go for a PC.

The PC is made out of industry standard parts which you can buy anywhere (and cheaply).

The Mac is made by Apple out of parts THEY sell, hence you will pay more.

vehelpfulguy's right. of course, with that in mind, you also get a better overall system ;) (slightly biased.)

They may be able to taylor make some stuff. Probably they just have several customisations. The online store is pretty fast though, and if you want a student discount then you need to order online.
