I would like to re-load my computer/Me version windows with xp. Can I do this myself?
Also, Vista is said to be having troubles. Would it be unwise to buy a new computer with Vista early next year when it is virtually the 'prototype', although hopefully this would be remedied in time.
When I had Windows 95. it was said that Me was not good, but I have had no trouble with Me, except of course that it is now completely out of date and I cannot download lots of things! All suggestions welcomed.
Yes it is easy to install Windows XP yourself, providing you have a genuine Windows XP, just put disc in drive and follow on screen instructions. I don't see any problems with buying a new PC with Vista installed on it, if any faults develop, Microsoft will issue patches and fixes to sort it out, so I don't see a problem.
Thank you Ratter15 for your help. I think you're right regarding downloading XP. I can get the genuine Windows XPbut I don't think my pc has the necessary drivers or capacity and I think that vehelpfulguy is right that an ME
is just not powerful enough - and the computer is now about 5/6 years old. Details are as follows vehelpfulguy.
I'm really loath to get a new computer as my present one has given such good service and if the children "mess it up" I can always put it right. However, I'll most likely look out for a good deal after Christmas for a new one, unless vehelpfulguy can give me some good news!
I do have an Acer XP laptop but I cannot work at any speed on a laptop keyboard and I don't think I could use this permanently in the home. Atttaching an extra keyboard wouldn't appeal to me.
I think you're right Ratter15. I'll let one of the childred have this one and I'll go for a new! Also, I would like a faster processor. Many thanks for your help. Trish.
