A Mac is a PC. There is no hardware difference.
The only difference is (and what I think you're probably meaning), Mac OS X vs. Windows. There is no comparison here, Mac OS X is leagues ahead in virtually all ways technically.
Another difference though is that Macs are integrated better, because Apple controls it that way. It has advantages and disadvantages, but because most things on a Mac involve Apple themselves in some way, people tend to be much more opinionated if their own Mac hardware. Windows PCs aren't integrated. You can buy your hard drive from here, your processor from there, etc. It means that people don't feel as attached to one company, and so there isn't as much loyalty to Microsoft as there is to Apple.

On the rare occasions I've had dealings with Macs I've had trouble just finding the power button. I remember an iMac, or maybe it was an eMac, where the power button was hidden around the back. And what's with the lack of an eject button on CD/DVD drives?
But when it comes down to it I prefer XP to OSX simply because it's what I'm used to and because none of the games I play are available for the Mac.

fo3nix: yes your right....it's the whole 'control' freak attitude thing that has always and always will put me off any Apple product. You can argue that apple doesn't have so much 3rd party software since their own products work so well....and this is true. But I like to feel that I have an option to choose what I want as opposed to being dictated to by apple. I hate DRM, I hate ipods, I hate jobs's smug attitude to his 'superior' products (which I know they are!). Also if your beloved mac goes tit's up when it's outside of (a very expensive) apple care warranty....well, you up shi* creek. I don't care how good the OS is or how pretty it looks or what material it's made from....I want it fixed and NOW! I want to pop down the road to any PC outlet and to be able to get the bits I need to fix it or upgrade it. What you get with apple is a load of negative attitude and a 1 month wait to get your machine back whilst it's shipped half way around the world to et a faulty button replaced.
Horses for courses. Windows sucks most of the time but I know how to fix it and upgrade all the hardware. I would rather have a TVR which I can fix myself than pay enormously for a Ferrari which, when it goes wrong, I can't!
When i'm minted and don't care about these fickle things I will buy several Macs....and hopefully a Ferrari ;o)

As for what it looks like, the flat panel monitor I use would look the same attached to a Mac or PC.
In fact, snagged, Mac users bug me - I have to deal with graphic designers all the time (I do a fair bit of print work) and they don't seem to appreciate that not everyone runs Macs and try sending over incompatible files, then don't outline fonts, then.........

For those who do not (you may yourself be included in this), Mac OS 9 and below was Apple's own special OS that frankly wasn't all that great in many ways. Its user interface was and is still better than anything Windows can manage, but in many other (lower level) ways, it wasn't as good as Windows. This also includes all the annoying file compatability stuff.
All that changed with Mac OS X, which is the current version, based on UNIX, which means that it's in general incredibly stable, very cross-platform compatible, works with anything Windows does, etc. I use a Mac daily, and have very few problems with it. Add to the UNIX underpinnings the best UI of any operating system, and you have a killer system.
But again, anyone who disagrees with this is generally a PC user that's never used Macs properly and doesn't understand or appreciate UI design and other concepts.

yes, okay....put the trumpet down! I refer you to my previous reply on servicing and fixing hardware problems. And yes I do know the differences between OS's....but even though this system is superior in many ways to windows PC's...I will still choose PC's for the reasons I outlined.
Anyway if it's 'that good' why hasn't the world made the change? It's a niche market still and always will be as long as apple insist on controlling all the hardware and software.

They control both hardware and software more for the system because that's the way Steve Jobs thinks it should be done, and in many ways he's right. But of course you're right in that there are advantages into owning a non-Apple computer.
