Cable DSL Wireless Router

I want to buy a wireless router so that I can use my wireless laptop, but need to know if anyone has a view of what are the best top five. I currently have cable broadband for my PC (which is not wireless) with Telewest. They suggested that I buy a Dynamode DSL Wireless Router, but when I read the reviews on this product, most people said the installation/start-up instructions are rubbish. They love the product once it's up and running though.

My question is: How good is Belkin, Buffalo or Netgear? I need something that's going to be easy to set up, doesn't cost a huge amount of money, and has firewall stuff, etc. I live in a really small flat so I know that I don't really have to worry about coverage area beyond 25 feet.

Linksys, d-link and the 3 you mention are all ok

best option though is to use wire - wireless is too easily affected ... and often security settings will only work correctly with adapters of same brand.

another option is to use powerline devices - over your mains wiring - getting good writeups recently ...

I too have Virgin broadband (formerly telewest) and have had no problems with my two year old linksys router.

I found it easy to set up, it is under �50, has a firewall and excellent security options - it is as good as you are prepared to make it.

Be aware that it is HUGELY important to set it up EXACTLY as instructed - otherwise it doesn't! If you can read and follow instructions, it will be fine.

I've used a Belkin (with ADSL though), and found it hassle. It disconnected itself once a day or so, and sometimes overheated (it had plenty of ventilation).

At home I have telewest broadband too, and have a Netgear wireless router. It works brilliantly, and was a snap to install. Took me about 5 minutes from taking it out of the box (granted though, I'm not a beginner).

I've had zero issues with it. Can't fault it. It's up in our loft with the other computer stuff, and I get a fairly strong signal with my laptop down in the kitchen, 2 floors down and on the other side of the house.
