...I have just upgraded my Acer laptop from windows xp to vista. There is an error nessage which pops up approx every 10 seconds telling me that there is an uncompatibiity issue with Norton and suggesting I download symantic anti virus corp edition v10. Even when I open the link to symantic I can't find out what to do. Please can someone help me? Desperation is slowly setting in...................

I would seriously consider uninstalling Norton.

Vista comes with its own security and Norton conflicts with it.

I would seriously suggest drilling a hole in your head. This will cause you considerably less pain and suffering than Vista...

I was tempted to get Vista until i found out a few facts about it on here!!!

Thanks for the prompt replies so far.
On balance, uninstalling Norton (for which I have only recently paid for an upgrade!!) will be marginally less painful than a hole in the head.

before you continue .... did you run the vista upgrade advisor?

just like when XP came out ... many older machines weren't suitable.

Vista uses a different type of codebase ... so norton, zone alarm etc etc etc (even office 2003) - may have compatibility problems ....

to make things worse manufacturers such as acer have delayed vista drivers ...

so all in all upgrades are a risky business

run the advisor BEFORE upgrading ... and you'll have a much smoother ride
