odd .... me too.

Just got a new vista home system using 2 different oprical mouses.
ps2 (usb/ps2 adapter) mouse jumps randomly - same mouse but connected via USB is OK!

However things for you to try!
1 clean ball & rollers
if no ball
2 is your mouse mat patterned/shiney? - esp Blue which has a different reflective index with red light.
a single plain colour and slightly matt textured surface is best.
3 If cordless - can mouse "see" the transmitter (base unit/monitor are screened to cut down emf).
is battery charged ok
4 Finally Drivers - try updating/reinstalling any drivers
Hi funky Have you tried the obvious remove the ball from the mouse and very lightly clean the inside rollers with thin blade scraper HTH Tez PS excuse if you have done.
Decided to have a go at my problem and found this .....

cured mine ....

I have a laser mouse MX1000 and if the tiniest piece of dust gets caught in the lens it plays havoc with the mouse cursor.

could be that, if its a laser mouse. If its not i'll go back to my hole in teh floor
