I want to create a website and have found a company of whom to do this with but i would like some confirmation with regards to getting big companies, little companies etc to place advertisements on my site and and how i go about in getting in touch with these companies thanks Mr A Kilshaw

Your best bet is to use google ads I would say. It will save you having to canvas companies. Google does the work for you and you then get paid by Google per ad.
