If i take my laptop out on the road is there a cheaper way of connecting it to the net than I am currently doing. My whereabouts is determined by factors outside my control so "Hotspots" not a solution. I am dialling an ISP with my mobile (bluetooth connection to laptop) which allows me to check my email which is all I reallly need but the connection takes ages and I've never sent an email, just received them. My contract gives me free minutes to any network but Internet access with it is very expensive. Changing phone contract not an option and I'm on Orange, any ideas?

Use an Internet cafe
It will be cheaper than using your mobile to get connected and as long as you make sure you log off on any session you will be ok.
Here's a list of UK cafes.

Don't think I'll get the truck into an internet cafe mate, the doorway probably won't accomodate a 44 tonner though I suppose if I was going fast enough.......
You could look into getting a 3G datacard from somewhere like Vodafone, but they're still pretty pricey. However, the performance should be better, and the difference in price may be very little.
