I acquired a new laptop recently and when entering an excel spreadsheet was unable to access page set up or print preview, instructing me to install a printer 1st. Its fine on Word. My friend also has a new laptop without a printer installed and she can print preview is there something I have to set up on Excel as its driving me mad?

yup it does that
I thought that MS had fixed ... but it depends on which version of xl you are running

The reason is that because of how xl page layout works it needs to "know" how many rows/cols will fit on a page ... no printer ... no dpi no page.

If i remember 98 had a "windows" print driver to get round this ...
XP doesn't - you could try looking in the office setup options
(don't have a disc handy .... so you are on your own)

but really why sweat ...
don't fight it .... just install a printer
HP laserjet 1, 2, whatever ... and the problem will go away

just install a printer - any printer
