Picasa as default

Can anyone help please?
Having passed on my PC to my husband without fully 'emptying' the hard disk or removing some programmes we are having a few problems. One of these is that when clicking on his pictures saved on his original hard disk in a 'caddy' they are being opened by default with Serif Photo Plus but he wants to use Picasa. Can I change it so that Picasa is the default without removing Serif and if so how?
many thanks
