my daughters (google) homepage has seemingly automatically changed its style? the text appears to be bigger and bolder and she's not happy (thats not difficult) anyone any advice on how to change it back?

This could be the result of the text size having been altered by using a mouse scrollwheel while holding down the Ctrl key. This same method can be used to restore the text size.

Another method is via the browser toolbar; View → Text Size in both IE and Firefox.
