Mouse button deactivation?

Is there any way to turn off the mouse button? Specifically the problem is that when my son who is 3 is using the mouse he keeps clicking the right click button by accident, leading to problems. So if I could deactivate the right click button when he is on the computer it would be a help.

It is possible to do so using MS Intellipoint...

Thanks for that but it looks a bit too hi tech for me. I assumed it could be done through the control panel some way.

Standard mouse drivers do not have the level of control (or complexity) to achieve what you want. Intellipoint is a more complex mouse driver which when installed allows you to change many aspects of your mouse via the mouse applet in the Control Panel.

The page in the above link may appear difficult to navigate but it is set up in that way to lead you to the version of the software appropriate to your Operating System. If I assume that you are using XP then this is the version you require...

Thanks kempie, got that downloaded but it still doesn't seem to be working properly. It is now giving the extra options in the control panel for what you want each button to do but when I choose to disable the right click button, it still works the same as usual. Does it matter that the mouse we have is a Dell one? Also it is one of those mice with the roller ball inside it and a wheel between the two buttons. What are they called? Forgive my ignorance of this stuff.

The software should work with the standard wheel mouse that you are using, although I must admit that Intellipoint 6.1 is a newer version than the one I have installed, namely Intellipoint 5.2, which I have found to be faultless with many different types of mouse and on various PCs.

If you wish to install the older version first uninstall Intellipoint 6.1 via Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Nope, tried that but still no good. All the options are there but don't take effect. When I go to mouse properties it says HID compliant mouse. Should it still work?
