Systems Restore

I have WindowsXP, bur cannot find Systems Restore. Tried Prog-Accesories-System Tools, but no System Restore in site. Checked search, but not found on the Local Hard Disc. It would seem that I have to download it from somewhere. Ideas please

Start,control panel, performance and maintenence...system restore

That was quick Elvis, see, you are alive and well BUT unfortunately there is no Performance and Maintainence icon in Control Panel

I`ve got Windows XP and in my control panel, i`ve got 10 categories, one is performance and maintence..and in that is systems restore...I`ve never added it, it`s always been there

Thanks Elvis, but in Control Panel I have 32 icons, but none with System Restore and going via Accessories and Sysrem Tools, I have 4categories, NONE of which have System Restore.

A Windows control panel can look different depending if you have it set with Category View or Classic View (see the option on the LEFT of the Control Panel).

A person who has Perfornace and Maintenance has it in Category view.

It is easy to seitch between the two views.

If you have 32 icons you probably have it in Classic View.

Double click on system icon and select the System Restore tab.

Thanks helpfulguy, clicked on Systems icon in Control Panel, various options..General, Computer Name, Hardware, Advanced etc but no sign of System Resore icon
Also cannot find your Classic View or Categaory View to left of Control Panel icon

Start --> Run
Type msconfig then click ok
Click on "Launch System Restore".

Nearest yet Kerplunk. After O.King msconfig there was certainly a field which gave you the option of Launch System Restore.....But, it was in faint print i.e would not respond to clicking upon.

Go here: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore

Do you have a program in there called rstrui.exe?

If you do, double click it.

You can set this on as follows:

Open the Control Panel and double click on the System Icon

Select the Advanced tab

In the Performance area press the Settings button

Scroll down the list and find the option "Use common tasks in folders".

Make sure there is a tick in the little box

Press OK to save the changes.

This should add a blue area to the left hand side of the Control Panel window.

I just realised something.

System Restore will only appear if you are logged on as a Windows Administrator.

To check this go to Control Panel and find User Accounts icon.

Double click on the User Accounts icon and window displayed should tell you if you are a Windows Administrator or not.

Thanks helpfulguy. I am logged in as an administrator and I have ticked the little box "Used commom tasks in folder"
Still nothing. It makes me wonder if I have got Systems Restore installed.
