Lightning killed Sony Vgn-fs115e

I believe the power has blown on the motherboard.
Complete technophobe, but have thousands of photos and hours and hours of i tunes on this laptop.
Is there a cheap way to retrieve the data ??

If you have access to another computer, buy a caddy that will take a 2.5inch laptop drive (should be less than �20). Remove the drive from the Sony, how you do that will depend on the model, on some there is a door on the side and the whole thing slides out in a cradle, on others you remove a panel on the base. Fit the drive in the caddy and plug into other computer. as long as the drive wasn't damaged in the strike that killed the lappy then you should be able to see the device as an external drive on the other computer.

And next time BACK UP your data to CDs or DVDs.

or just buy a 2.5" usb enclosure ... you can then use the disc to backup whatever you replace the dead machine
