I am designing my company brochure using Microsoft Publisher, can most printers read these files? Ta

Sorry, when I say "Printers" I mean the people I go to for the production Printing :o)

I'd say no. I'm work in publishing and most printers I know actually charge more for working with MS Publisher ' if you can even find someone willing to take it. One way around it would be to save/export the Publisher file as a hi-res PDF. Printers prefer mainstream packages like Quark, InDesign, Pagemaker etc.

Forgot to say.. don't just fire the finished brochure at the printer and ask them to correct "any technical errors that they find". They will charge the earth and this is one easy of making money for them. So try to make sure all the pics and bleed off etc are sorted before you send it off. Have fun!

On this subject, I used to use Publisher all the time with an ancient printer (epson stylus) with no problems at all. However I've now got a new printer (Lexmark p707) and everytime I try to print from a Publisher file, the pc just shuts off as if the plug has been pulled - no warning, nothing. Anyone have any idea how I may remedy this? Thanks.

I can make PDF files although I don't know how to do High res ones....

Adobe Pagemaker 7.0 is the current version and retails for about �480 inc VAT. I've used older versions of Pagemaker and it's fairly intuitive and has been around forever in various versions. An alternative that a lot of people are showing interest in is Adobe InDesign CS (about �700). I don't know a great deal about this one ' it might catch on, it might not -it's early days yet. Check the Adobe website and see which you think suits your intended use. http://www.adobe.co.uk. But first I'd check with potential local printers that you might use and ask them what publishing software they use. They might mention QuarkXpress which is really pro stuff and comes with a hefty price tag too.. about �1000 so forget that one!! My gut feeling is that Pagemaker might fit the bill and it can also export hi-res PDFs if need be. All the best.

You will find MOST print companies will only work with Adobe pagemaker files. They seem to hate publisher.
