freeview tv guide

A few days ago my freeview said it was updating the tv guide. 2 days ago it said it was complete. Last night I switched to freeview and all was normal until I tried to look at tv guide and screen went blue carrying an information notice that the guide was now upgraded etc.
At the bottom of the screen was a pale blue band with a red dot at the left. Next to red dot is the word 'start'. I cannot get rid of the blue screen. after a few seconds the sound returns and I can change channel (1-5) by using number keys or P+ or P-, but I only get sound because the blue screen stays. I can't access the freeview channels and I can't get tv guide.

I left the set on onvernight and got up today to find the normal picture, and the little blue box at the bottom with the tv guide. as soon as I used the remote to flick the guide up and down, it went back to the blue screen and sound only.

what am I doing wrong? Can anyone help?
