Hi, I'm new to this & a total technophobe, but what a brilliant site. My question is can I use instant messaging to chat to anyone or do they have to be with the same isp as me ? [I'm with aol]. Thanks.

You can chat with anyone, doesn't matter who the ISP is.

as long as you both have the same messenger service, AOL has one but I couldnt ever get to grips with it, MSN is the most popular one, most people have that

All my friends and I use Skype for instant messaging and free talk.

You only have to have the same program, i.e. MSN is good for this!
