Making files smaller?

Is there a way to make my pictures smaller? I have a bluetooth usb and wish to put pictures onto my phone but when i put big files on it doesnt show on my phone. It works with files up to about 50kb, is there any way i can get my pictures this small.Not too bothered about the quality as they only going on my phone. Thanks
