My daughter is nearly 10yrs and wants a Laptop for christmas. I know nothing about what to buy and not sure if the likes of PC World etc give the best advice.

She wants to be connected to the internet, download / play music and games, photos, usual stuff etc.

I have Sky Tv but currently do not have a phone line. Will I need one??

Single parent so budget wise around 500 at the most.

Help?? Don't know what to buy or how to get connected

500 is more than enough. Those cheap ones at Tesco, Woolworths, PCWorld will be more than good enough.

Without a telephone line you won't get internet cheaply, unless you are in a Virgin Cable enabled area.

I'v used http://www.ebuyer.co.uk quite a bit you'll probably find them about 30 cheaper than PC world's web site.

But if you do want that be aware that PC world's web site prices can be cheaper than their store prices and if you buy in store and challenge them they'll drop the price to the web price.

So if you buy from them say you thought you saw it 20 cheaper on their website and get them to check and they should sell it to you at the web price.
