My screen goes to half brightness when I open it more than about 80 degrees, sometimes it blacks out altogether.
The problem seems to be getting worse as last week it was 90 degrees!
Has anyone else had this problem at all and can you suggest a reason for it happening and / or a solution?

I'm assuming that it's most likely the same causes as similar problems on non-Mac laptops: either a loose connection between the main body and the screen or on the backlight. If it's no longer under guarantee it may be worth opening it up and checking if you are confident enough to do this. I don't know how easy it is to do on a Powerbook, but it's not that difficult on most laptops I have worked on.
How old is it?

Take it to an Apple store and have a genius look at it (book an appointment online).
