My son's email account is being spoofed and every day he has nearly 2000 bounce backs. He is currently job hunting and gives out this email address as it is what I call a 'proper' one rather than a Hotmail address etc, so he has to check the bulk folder manually to make sure that no job offers or rejections get sent there by mistake, but deleting the bouncebacks is very time consuming. It is a BT Yahoo account and their Help section mentions spam and filtering etc, but makse no mention of spoofing. Does anybody know if there is anything that can be done about this. I know he could change his email address, but he got one of the very first Talk21 accounts and so has got a very memorable address and doesn't want to give this up if he can help it.
It's a real pain when a spammer spoofs your address but other than altering his email address, there's not much you can do apart from wait until the spammer chooses another address.
He has probably posted his email address on the internet somewhere. A bit late now but in future it's probably worth posting it as:
jules (at) talk21 (dot) co (dot) (uk)
This will make it harder to pick up by the automated programs that spammers use to harvest vast numbers of addresses.
