saving largish files

Can anyone help? For some reason I can no longer open or save files sent from friends over about 250kb. If it is powerpoint it says no slides and if it is any other format it says that the file may be corrupt or I do not have the settings. I have received these for a long time with no problem, I have even had a friend send one back to me that I sent out when things were ok and that failed too. I have loads of jokes etc to catch up on please any suggestions?

"sent"... how exactly?

Are you receiving them via email, or on a CD, or flash drive, or ...?

Try getting your friend to send them another way.

They are coming in via email (yahoo)

I have just opened a hotmail account and they work ok through that so it must be something to do with yahoo mail.
