Click on links causes IE6 to shut down

Just recently some links that I click on such as a Google Search Result cause Internet Explorer (ver 6) browser to immediately close. If I redo the search eventually the page will remain open.
Any idea why please

microsoft have done some sort of update recently which is causing IE to wobble with java and asp links.

you could sit and wait ... MS will eventually fix the problem
you could uninstall recent updates (but which?)
your best option is to upgrade to IE7 .... but there is a downside ... java is almost totally disabled ... and quicktime can cause problems so certain pages will stop working as they did (no big deal - but niggly)

Thanks . I had just received a lot of updates so bet that is it.
When I ran AVG Antivirus it reported changes to some Java Files.

if you go to start>all programmes>accessories>system tools>internet explorer no add ons,you can use internet explorer(as it says,without add ons).
should be trouble free.

bongoboy. I dont seem to have that option as described.

ok with internet explorer open,click on tools>manage add ons >enable or disable add ons.
on the drop down,show add ons currently loaded in internet explorer.
click on sun java console then underneath check the disable box.(you can always enable it again later).
Or disable any other java add ons.
If it makes no difference you can re enable it and disable another add on until you find the culprit by trial and error.
