Malware

Last night I was on here and my Antivirus program warned me that AB was sending me malware and I should abort it immediately. I followed instructions and did just that.
What exactly is malware and how dangerous is it?

Malware is such things as computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, spyware, dishonest adware, and other malicious and unwanted software which gets downloaded to your machine without your consent or knowledge.

I have never had any problems with malware from the AB site.

I think it's more likely that it recognised AB as an untrusted site and you have been warned that it MAY be dangerous.

Something was downloading ... the little green bars were fulling up and the warning box that came up said my computer would be infected with malware from AB if I don't abort now.

It wasn't just a pop up box advertising something like "click here to get rid of your spam" or something like that?

Never click on any advert like that as it will infect your PC.

Squarebear, it wasn't a pop-up box. I can recognise them and know the differences. I use Avast, the warning box was large carrying the Avast logo and instructions. This is not the first time I receive this warning about AB.

ab isn't the best site for my internet explorer to cope with. it often causes it to close down.

AB also causes my Firefox toclose after about 5 mins. What is wrong with it now.

it's possible that a missing plug-in was starting to d/l (although you'd have thought you'd have been asked first ....
perigra is right ... I've had similar problems with flakey code
