Tesco will also sell you a new keyboard, for your PC, for under a fiver. (It's simply not worth trying to fix a duff keyboard).

Yes, just plug a new keyboard into one of the usb ports - you can buy a new wireless keyboard and mouse for less than �15 (I'm assuming that your roller ball has also gone ga ga too!).

I have just bought a new keybpoard and I can now write properly again!

Thanks for your help. I'm oviously really annoyed to have caused the problem in the first place but at least I can now use my computer until I can aford to buy a new one.

Is it worth me trying to get this one fixed?
