i have done something with my pc but i dont know what. i cant seem to set any pictures as a background on my desktop. what i have noticed is that when i shut down, a picture appears on the screen that i must have downloaded at sometime but i cant seem to access it anywhere to delete it. could this be the problem and if so, how do i get rid of this dodgy photo???
Hi,
Assuming you have Win XP, have you tried right clicking on the desktop select properties then desktop this will show you the file set as the desktop pic. Sometimes it says internet explorer wallpaper, this can be set on any internet page when you right click the web page and choose set as background.
This is saved on your pc so to delete it, from the display properties choose browse, right click the file and delete.
Thanks Pug100 but it wont let me click on anything its sort of faint if you get my drift. it wont even let me scroll down to find internet wallpaper, the only things i can click are ok and cancel. also if i choose to set another wallpaper, it doesnt appear on the desktop.
It sounds very much like you may have something installed on your PC that's preventing you from doing this.
Assuming you have protected yourself by using a firewall, anti spyware and anti virus have you downloaded anything recently thats caused this problem?
If not then a scan using the tools mentioned may point to the culprit.
Thanks for your reply Pug100 its my work pc and I have just looked in my virus vault and i have a Trojan Horse Generic virus Malware Alarm, i think I may have downloaded it by mistake the date of the infection does seem to correspond to the start of this problem. Is there any way of getting rid of this or am I stuck with it?
