Limewire function (or not!)

I have used the free version of Limewire with no problem, until it suddenly ceased to 'fire up'

I bought the 'official' version, which worked, then failed. The tekkies at Limewire sugggested I remove and re-install, which I did, and it worked fine for w few weeks, before again failing to start correctly.

A remove / re-install has not worked this time, so I am at a loss to know what to do.

I have the AVG free virus control on my Windows XP - could this be part of the problem?

when you uninstall a program it leaves a trace on your HD
go into start and open search type lime wire
when it bring up programs delete all
the go back to search and type in programs
search all folders for any remaining lime wire folders left and delete
now comes the dangerous bit close all fire walls and install lime wire re start fire walls and allow limewire then start limewire and in the lefthand corner you should see a globe of the earth diconnect fire wall
and it should be ok
this is what i did

Sorry to be such a Luddite - but how do I disable and re-start firewalls? I can do the deletions bit.

Limewire is full of viruses and ruins your PC settings. This is surely the easiest way to download music/movies that I've ever seen .
