Go to start,all programs,accessories,system tools,defrag,click the drive you want to defrag (Usually the C drive) and press defrag.
It sorts out your files to help your comp run quick. You should do this every few months or every time you put new software or programs on

You could always try updating you RAM Memory.
Go to Cruical.com and they will scan your computer and tell you the right RAM for your PC.

I think Spyware Doctor may be your culprit, leylander.

I used it with it's partner Registry Mechanic for 4 years until my computer was practically at a standstill - so I uninstalled it, giving it a new lease of life.

As slid_away says defragging is essential and there are also lots of very good free clean up software programs available. If you don't want to go to the expense of Registry Mechanic I can recommend Zappit .It's excellent, does everything for you and is now free. Use it in the Safe Mode option.

Did this PC come with XP on it, or did you upgrade from an earlier version of Windows like Windows ME?.

Sorry for this really late reply, hope anyone can hear this anyway. Well, a lot of free ways are there to speed up a slow PC, you can give them a try. Most of them are effective.
1) Remove Unwanted Programs.
2) Delete Any Clutter / Junk Files.
3) Clean Out The Registry.
4) Disable automatic startup of some programs.
5) Defragment your system.

Also let a PC clean up program to perform a health check of the computer. Here to download:
