Does no car tax invalidate an insurance when a cars crashed?

I took my audi to a registered audi dealer for repair and was given an audi curtosy car. I crashed it yesterday, it wasnt my fault however when i called the audi garage they said i have to pay �1000 access as ive crashed it. I noticed on inspection after the crash that they actually gave me this 57reg car with no tax, it ran out in November. I didnt even think of checking this as i got it from this proper place its the last thing i thought to do. Anyway... As its not taxed does this invalidate their insurance claim and shall i pay the �1000? They did seem shakey when found out no tax they offered to cut the price for me!!!

I really couldn't say, but aside from that, it's a bit out of order giving you an untaxed car!

I would suggest though that if a member of the AA or RAC, you try using their legal services for advice, or failing that, ask your own insurers for advice.

No it won't - be warned though that if the insurer finds out, they may investigate your claim just to make sure there's nothing more to it.

Personally, I wouldn't give it any more thought if I came across this claim - you need insurance and an MOT (where applicable) to get tax. As it's clearly insured, and the car is too young for an MOT, it would simply suggest a memory lapse.

Same principle applies for no MOT (unless failed component casued/contributed to the incident)

i would flatly refuse to pay any money telling them that the car should not have been legally on the road,which was their fault and not yours,tell them you have spoken to your solicitor and will see them in court.
