Annoying Adverts

While on the internet I keep getting annoying adverts, especially for damned ringtones and so-called "virus blockers". How can I stop this? I obviously have a virus somewhere but my current Norton (up-to-date) doesn't seem to be able to deal with this. Any ideas gratefully rec'd. But can you keep it simple - thamks.

First, get rid of norton. Get a free av program like Avast or AVG. Then download and install the Google toolbar.
