Why does my keyboard not give the correct symbols? As an example, there is no pound sign when I press shift & 3, all I get is #. Likewise, when I want the @ sign, I have to press shift & 2. Vice-versa if I want speech marks.

Keyboards are different in other countries. Your PC seems to believe that you're using a foreign keyboard.

Go to the Keyboard settings, in Control Panel. Click 'Language' and check that 'English (British)' is set as the default language.

Thanks Chris, but I tried that, high-lighting English (UK), but it still happens. Any other thoughts?
sounds like an American keyboard; they don't have s. But if Chris's cure doesn't work, I don't know what will.
Try pressing alt and shift (left hand side of the keyboard) together.
My sister has this problem. You get round it as you have by using Shift & 2 for the@ sign etc. The was the only hurdle, but if you alt 0163 you will get the sign. Bit of a pain but at least it will work. Other than that get a new keyboard!
has is correct of course. Youll soon get used to it if youre aware of the differences. I use the U.S. keyboard configuration as a matter of choice because it makes it easy to type foreign accents without having to use the ALT key codes.
Sorry, I meant auzzie is correct !!
