i am being offered this thru my employer at a price of approx 20, to use at home for personal use. i can find benefits of this on the microsoft site, but no pitfalls. anyone know any? would they recommend it? would i be better off just getting my own license?
I use it and like it. For the price, you'd be nuts not to take it. Have you looked at the cost of your own retail copy? It's crazy. Your employer may be giving you a copy with it's own license key. It may also be a corporate version too. You might want to ask but either way, I would do it. My school was offering me a copy for $60 and even thats a good deal compared to the $800 that it costs retail.
You wil not get an Office license for 20, add an extra nought maybe. 20 is a steal for Enterprise Office.
Microsoft realise the days of expensive Office packages are over, with plenty of free office packages around, and Google and others offering web based office tools.
This is a blatant attempt by Microsoft to "lock" the word into MS Office (as if it wasnt already) hoping it will give them a good revenue stream for the next 5 or 10 years.
I got a new computer that came with office 2007, the word documents are DOCX so if you have any DOC on your older program then they wont open you will have to down load the microsoft DOCx converter.
It also gets some getting used to the word and excel tool bars are very strange.
In the end I went back to my 2003.
