Make a backup copy of your fonts directory. On Windows XP this should be C:\WINDOWS\Fonts
Download the fonts to your usual download directory. Most fonts are zip (compressed) files. You may need to extract the font files from the zip files. See the Help section on Dafont.
Copy the font files (they should have a .ttf extension) to your fonts directory (eg. C:\WINDOWS\Fonts). You should then be able to access them in Word.
Bear in mind that if you include the fonts in a document you'll have no problem printing them. However, if you email the doc to a recipient who doesn't have the font installed they won't see the doc as you see it.
Lastly, the more fonts you've got installed the slower your machine will load.
Hope that hepls, have fun.

This is a useful site:
http://simplythebest.net/fonts/
To summarise Plowter's information:
If the downloaded file has a 'ttf' extension, place it directly into the folder C:\WINDOWS\Fonts .
If (more likely) the downloaded file has a 'zip' extension, save it to wherever is convenient to you. Then double-click on the file to extract it. You'll be asked to choose the destination for the extracted file. Place it in C:\WINDOWS\Fonts
(Once you extracted the ttf file, you can delete the downloaded zip file).
