Phone problem
4 Answers
My BT Synergy cordless phone operates through an ASDL filter which also links to my BT broadband modem. It has suddenly stopped working through the filter (no ringtone) , but still works when plugged directly into the telephone wall socket. BT say I have a line, which I do, and the BT Broadband helpline can't help. I've tried plugging a neighbour's phone, and also get no ringtone. I've tried three different filters and the same thing happens. I don't want to go out and buy a new phone if the phone's not the problem.

If it still does not work with either of the above, go to your neighbours house use one of their wall sockets sockets and connect the phone through the filter and see what happens

mmm a strange one this i take it you still get a dial tone and can make calls.
normally your ring tone is activated via circuitry installed in your master/line box witch sends a signal down your ring wire but ADSL filters have built in ringer circuitry so you dont even need your ring wire connected so unless all three filters you have tried are knackered I dont know what is going on as I would blame your wiring/line box if it wasnt for the fact that you have already stated the phone works without the filter

phone ring OK in the socket ....
phone no ring in the filter
but you've tried 3 different ones ....
so it's either the socket .... but phone ring OK
so that only leaves the wiring
(you don't mention other sockets?)
the line tests OK .... all this means is that the master socket's clear ....
do you have one of these sockets?

if you do - unscrew the front plate
inside is a socket that the front plate plugs into
plug your filter in .... see if it rings

Thanks, Zinnie, Mattie and the Troll. I've tried everything you suggested but still no luck. The only thing I haven't yet tried is my phone + filter in a neighbour's socket. I'll try that this evening when they're home.
I even went out and bought a new filter. Could it be that my phone is somehow interfering with, or damaging the fliters? It's a four-year old BT product.
