Difficulty logging in to certain sites
Hi,
I connect using a wireless router which I have had checked and is fully operational, I also carried out a defrag of my hard drive to no avail, and connect through a broadband connection which was fine until a few weeks ago.
Now, any time I try to sign in to certain websites e.g. ebay etc, I get to the login page, put in the correct login details, hit return and then, after much delay, eventually get the "this page cannot be displayed" screen.
My ISP knows nothing, please can somebody help me remedy this situation?

try downloading this version of firefox
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_ portable
it's completely self contained ... so won't disturb anything.
if it worksyou know it's explorer .... you can either
keep ffox portable
install the full version of ff
or ...... if you have an idea when the problem started ... use a restore point.
and load hotfixes one by one until you prove the problem.

I've just managed to rectify that very problem myself! I was just down to only one obscure webpage opening until that gave up too, earlier today. All cables were fine and all the correct lights were on so as a last resort I disconnected the router (Linksys WAG354G), from the mains and left it for one minute. After reconnecting I am now firing on all cylinders!
I hope it is that simple for you.
Thanks for trying to help.
I tried disabling my and windows firewall to no avail, also disconnected my router and reconnected and hit the same brick wall unfortunately.
Ebay is a common site I cannot sign in to, also my web based email is easy enough to access, however if I click "reply" or try to download an attachment it gives up after a couple of minutes.

your AND window's firewall(s)?????
by any chance does your router have a firewall .... set to max?? (low or med should be enough )
btw disconnecting router isn't the same as switching off for 5 mins
that could be the answer. Even MS defender is suspect
a machine will only work correctly with
1 firewall
1 virus
and as many spyware progs as you can eat
