Ipods Itunes and all that stuff

Hi,
I've spent the last 3 hours converting 60 MIDI files to wavs for our rhythm guitarist to use for rehearsing. He's coming round tomorrow with his iPod, about which he knows nothing. I can batch convert this lot to mp3, and normalise them at the same time. If I do that, can I just drag and drop them onto his iPod like I do with me Archos, or have I got to use the awful (I WILL take over your music!) iTunes?
If the latter, is it worth me converting them, or should I leave them as wavs, and if I do, will iTunes allow me to normalise them when it (presumably) converts them?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Which iPod? I think most 3rd party players for iPod are becoming compatible with the latest ones (after Apple started encrypting parts of the database), but if it's older, or perhaps worth a try anyway, give Yamipod a go:

Saves you installing iTunes, and shouldn't mess up his iPod.
You can enable sound check on iTunes and iPod to normalize the volume. But if the wavs fit, perhaps just stick to wavs? (I'm pretty sure iPod plays them).

Thanks for that fo3nix - how did I know that you would be first to answer?
Matheous, I wasn't sure if iPods used mp3 format or Apple's own. The guy has an iPod that he's never used (and is unlikely to, for anything other than described) so space is not exactly at a premium. He originally wanted me to put these on a collection of CDs for his Walkman. The iPod was a present, and it just didn't occur to him that it was a suitable medium for music :-)
