forgotten password for admin account on wondows xp

hi i use an account set up on my machine.. and my brother had the admin account, but he never used the laptop and now i need to add some new software i have to be on the admin account..

he has tried several passowrds but cannot remember it... is there anyway to reset the account passowerd for admin.. can it be done from one of the other accounts..

please advise..

unfortunately not (that's the whole idea of having password protection!)

when you've stopped slapping him ....
you could download http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdis k.html
create a bootdisc and remove the password.

read the instructions carefully
Boot in to safe mode & check if the proper administrator account is password protected. by default its not & most people dont know or bother about setting a password for it once they have set up thir own account.
