On Google earth how do I get the mileage up between places? I am getting on a bit so be gentle with me when telling me that I am stupid please. (50 this summer) I have put my house in and my son's in Oz but it didn't give me the distance and I cannot work out how to do it.

there's a ruler on the taskbar which you can use to measure between two points - i think both have to be on the screen at thesame time so you have to zoom out

Excellent 9,560 miles thank you.
I've just tried it (and I'm older!)

If you select the ruler, then click on the start, drag the line so that you make a sizable length. You can then enlarge the area (zoom out), click on the end of the line again and pick it up, carry on dragging. Providing the end of the line is in view you should be OK. Doesn't matter which way you go - the line straightens up and goes the shortest way.

keep repeating, until you near your destination, then reverse the process.
