System Restore

I installed a Belkin Wi-Fi adapter, before connecting my router, which wasn't recognized, once it was connected. I re-installed the programme, with the router connected, but the result as the same.
So, I decided to use System Restore, to put things back as they were, and try again, after some investigation. It won't restore to an earlier date.
Can anyone help, or explain why this has happened?

which particular bit?

usb ....
did you install the driver BEFORE inserting the adapter?
if not UNINSTALL - not system restore - reboot - install ... ins adapter - wait 'till the adapter is recognised.
(this time with the router switched on)

Thanks, ACtheTROL.
At the moment I'm not particularly interested in the router, or the adapter; I can sort all that out, some other time.
I said what I'd done, so that eveyone would know exactly what happened, before I attempted to use System Restore. I still wish to use this facility. Does anyone know how I can?
Windows XP or Vista?
right click my computer
properties
system restore

vista http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/u sing-windows-vista-system-restore/

switch OFF
reboot
Switch ON
reboot
to use trouble free ... enable on ALL partitions.

in all the time I've been using XP/Vista ... I used system restore once .... it didn't solve my problem.

system restore does exactly that ... it's not a substitute for uninstalling programs and or drivers ....

yours is a description of what not to ... you were lucky it didn't work

I'd had uninstalled the Belkin programme and was using System Restore simply to get rid of any crap that was left behind, as I intend trying, again, later.
I've never had trouble with System Restore, before, and I've been using it (on and off) for years.
However, I'll check out the procedure that you give and see how I go on. Thanks.
