laptop to projector

I am having trouble with connecting my Compaq laptop to a Notevision projector. The background is there but the presentation does not show. I've done all I can in display and still nothing. help

overlays certainly cause problems!
is it a movie?

look in the display settings - there could be an option there (don't have a compaq to hand)

if it's media player
tools | options | performance | advanced
remove the use overlays (note this will reduce the quality)

also check that the screen resolution matches the native res of the projector
