Retreiving my music on my iPod

I have a computer that had all its contents (nothing was on it). I purchased Windows XP (Home Edition). I have an iPod Shuffle (2nd generation) that was installed with my old computer (which is the same computer but restored). In iTunes (on my "new" computer) it does not list my iPod in the source pane under "Devices", it will also restrict me from transferring my purchases (even though I authorize my computer). I don't want to "Erase and Sync" because I have a LOT of songs on my iPod. I also cannot sync it because it was installed on "another" computer's iTunes (which is its "home" as they call it). I need some way that I could keep my songs, transfer them in the new iTunes (which is a different version from the old one) and install it in iTunes so its under Source: Devices.

Thanks (very much) to any one who can give me some kind of advice and help rescue the songs from my iPod.
