internet explorer keeps stopping working...?

everytime i close an internet explorer window, the whole screen goes frosted and a box comes up saying "internet explorer has stopped working" then gives me 2 options, to close the program or check online for a solution and then close the program.
when i check online, it never comes up with a solution - and then closes all the IE windows i have open.
This is obviously a pain

any ideas what could be the probem?

hi, the laptop was brand new about 4 months ago so its the most recent version. and its vista

Not a direct answer, but a solution for the moment would be to download Firefox and set that up to be your browser instead. Here's a link to the download .... http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/fire fox/

There are a huge number of *bugs* in Vista - I guess you have just discovered yet another one.....
