Crackly phone after broadband installation

I've got broadband up and running for my mother in law over the weekend, wireless router (Ethernet connection to her desktop, but wireless is enabled) with filters on the PC connection and main phone. Broadband works perfectly, but she reckons the phone line is now crackly.
1. There is another phone extension, rarely used, that doesn't have a filter. Would this cause a problem even if the phone is not being used?
2. The main phone is cordless. Could this be interference from the wireless router?
3. Anything else I haven't thought of?
Cheers!

most probably the extension, you need a filter on ALL connections.
Yep put a filter on every phone. It will increase the reliability of her broadband too.
you do need a filter on every phone point that has a phone connected to it, you may as well disable the wireless if your not using it as that also may be causing interference on the phone as they will both operate in very similar frequency ranges.

if neither of the above solve the problem may be worth investing in a few decent ADSL filters, the ones that the ISP would have given you will be cheapo ones and it can make a huge difference putting decent ones in their place. ADSLnation make about the best filters in my opinion.

You could also try having the line checked by the BT Engineer if all else fails.
You should have a faceplate on the first socket ... where the line comes in to the house (a NTE5)
undo the top two screws and carefully pull the face towards you.

behind is a socket ... plug phone in there .... it is noisy?

filters in ALL sockets with something plugged in.
(if the noise is there when using broadband ... first swap the filters round ... if that's no different - you can filter the filter)

see how that goes .... finally ... if she no use da wifi .... why leave it on? ... unless she's going to join fon ... you are just leaving a window open ... if you need it later ... that's when to switch it on.

I'll try another filter in the other phone, see how that goes. I left the wireless on (secured of course) so that her son can use his lappy when he visits - neither of them have much of a clue with messing about with settings.
i was told by orange that if you have a cordless phone and it is plugged directly into your router it will cause interference. i dont know if this helps

Just in case anyone cares - a filter in the other phone sorted it. Thanks for the responses!
