I've successfully transferred the above to my new laptop as it's taken me over 3 years to build up!! (I saved it onto an external hard-drive if that helps!)

I've downloaded the latest version and added the folder from my desktop to it but now it appears I have 2 itunes folders so how do I combine it as everytime I add new music, it's updating the new one and not the one on my desktop!

I only want to know this incase I ever need to move it again!!

Thanks in advance!

three years to build a new laptop !!!!!!!!!!!
it must be HUGE.

sorry .... ;-( nothing constructive to say
Here's the procedure. See what you still have to do:

1) Get iTunes music onto an external drive

2) On new laptop install iTunes and get it running with no music in library.

3) Click edit->preferences in iTunes, and then advanced tab. There will be a location of where the library is stored -- by default it's something like C:\documents and settings\[username]\my documents\my music\itunes\itunes music. Change this to wherever you want the library. If you're happy with it in the default location, just leave it as is.

4) Drag folder containing all your music from external drive into iTunes window -- wait a while as music is added.

5) Click advanced -> consolidate library, to put all this music in your library location I mentioned in step 3.

---------------------------------

If you like, you can first copy music folder from external drive to your desktop, then drag that folder into iTunes. (I can't remember if pressing consolidate library moves music to library folder or just copies it. Copies I think.)

Thank you so much fo3nix!!

I've finally sorted this out now and everything working ok and I'm so pleased as it proved to be such a headache!!

I guess it's easy when you know how and at least I can tell my friends who are in the same predicament of buying new laptops and how to transfer their iTunes as well now!

Thanks again and I owe you a few beers as you always seem to know what you're talking about and now I can relax!!!!
You're welcome :)
