avast anti virus - help please!!

Hi all
Have got the above loaded on both desktop and lappy.

Both run Windows XP Home with service pack 2.

However, when I run a thorough scan on desktop it takes just over an hour but on the lappy it takes nearly four!!

Laptop hasn't got much more stuff on it than the desktop so I am confused why this is happening.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

laptop hard drives are much slower than desktop ones so scanning the full file system will take longer if they had precisely the same amount of data on the drive.

I don't use Avast myself but maybe one is set to do a general scan and the other a deep thorough scan.
