win32 error

bought a pc of a mate but when i download a microsoft word/excel doc i keep getting a "not a win32 application2 but if i save a doc of my own on the pc its ok. can any one shed any light ?

word/excel doc?

unfortunately word isn't the only app that uses .doc
(does it actually say it's word?)

try opening it in notepad and write

which version of office are you using?

thanks for reply.ive got works 8.5 using vista, and i have loaded up word 2003 to see if that would work,

this is all i get but all docs work fine on my laptop
To me it looks like Vista is recognising the .doc file as an executable. Try going into MS Word, press File > Open and navigate to that file and see if it opens. If it does open, then you have a filetype association problem.

yeah thanks for that works on word 2003 and 8.5 but have to change the file to all files to view them . is there any way of sorting the file type problem
