My brother's got a Microsoft Lifecam VX1000i. He installed the driver from the disk, which gave him vision but no sound facility.

He uninstalled the driver and then downloaded the relevant one from http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/dow nload.aspx?category=ICE However, when trying to install it, he got the message that there was not enough memory to do so.

The file to download is 117MB and he's got 5.9 GB of hard drive space on his computer. I am, therefore, confused. Does anybody have any idea what he should do?

He's using a PC with Windows 32-bit SP2.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

he got the message that there was not enough memory to do so.

Did it really say memory, thats nothing to do with the hard drive if it did, memory is your computers RAM not the hard drive.

Does the system meet all the minimum specs that were on the box for the lifecam?

Oops, no, it didn't say 'memory'. What it actually said was: "Setup cannot continue because either there is insufficient free hard disk space or an unexpected error has occured." It then goes on to say that hard disk space should be freed up. As he tried installing from the CD and from the web, always getting the same error message, I'm assuming it's not the 'unexpected error' part of the message.

Yes, his system does meet with the minimum spec on the box.

Any ideas?
as he has 5.9gb free space I would think it may well be the unexpected error' part of it

But how many drives has the computer got, the 5.9gb free is on the system drive isn't it? (normally c:)

is he logged in as a user with administrative rights?

Thanks for getting back to me on this. Yes, there's only one drive, the c drive, and so that's where the free space is.

He is logged in with admin rights.
