Are you using Windows XP, Vista or a Mac?
Look at your disk drive drawer front. Can you see anything like DVDR+; DVDR-;DVDRW or CD?
If so,what does it say? It is very simple once we have the information.
Do you want to save to cd, or dvd? You can get many more photos on a dvd than a cd, but it is easier to 'catalogue' cds - you may not want thousands of photos on one disc.

Firstly, does your PC have a writable disc drive. Later ones are DVD which can also do CD, earlier ones are generally CD only. Again, later models are usually both plus and minus DVD/R (The plus etc are the two types) and the earlier are generally one or the other, and not compatible.
For pictures, they take little space and can you can generally get loads on a CD. Blank CD's are very cheap. The easiest way is to create a new folder, copy the pics you want into it, and then use whatever software you have to create a CD

Thank you both for your rapid response to my question - I have 2 drawers for discs, one which says compact disc rewriteable 52x32x52x and the other one which has on it.. compact disc recordable, rewriteable 8x4x32x. I am using Windows XP. I would like to be able to play my photo's on my dvd player if possible.
Your dvd player SHOULD display photos written to cd disk - I was say 90% do.
You need cd disks, I would suggest 8x (8 speed). Although your machine is capable of burning faster, generally there are less problems burning at slower speeds.
I suspect you have Windows XP. Put your blank cd in the rewritable drawer, open your folder containing your photos (my pictures, probably).
If you want to burn all your photos to disk simply click 'copy all items to cd' in your left hand panel.
If you want to select a few, you can click on one, hold 'shift' and press the arrow keys to highlight the pics you want.
You'll soon get the hang of it.
