I'll be going to university in September so I'll probably need a simple home budget program to keep track of my spending and debts. Can anyone suggest a good free or nearly free program that keeps things simple. If it's too hard or complicated it probably won't get used.

Well, call me old-fashioned, but I still don't think that you can do better than a simple cash book from any stationers.

However, if you insist on using technology which is more advanced than pen and paper, this should meet your needs:

I agree with Buenchico - hello Chris.

If you're not going to use something which seems too complicated, then an ordinary book seems your best bet. It's easy enough to write down your income, and then do a simple deduction for outgoings, and what you have left just has to be divided up so that you have enough to last you through each week/month.
Or you could use my simple budgetary control system:

1) If the cashpoint won't give you any money, you're up to budget.
2) If the bank write to you, you're over budget.
3) If the bailiffs turn up, you should have stopped at (1) or (2)
press the keys with a pencil and keep everybody happy
