When you say you can't connect, what happens?

Does the laptop "see" your wireless network?

erm i dont even know how to do that .....i connected my psp to the wireless router but wouldnt know where to start on the laptop
Do you know how to access the router admin/set up pages using the router ip address?

Have you got an ethernet cable?
Question Author
hi no i havnt a clue but i do have an ethernet cable as my pc is connected
Question Author
and to be honest i thought it was just a case of getting the laptop to find the wireless router but hey nothing is ever that easy eh
Have you got a little icon in the system tray by the clock which looks like a tv monitor? You may have to click the arrow to expand the icon areas to see it.

If so, right click on that, click status and support. That should give the IP address.

Are you with me still?
There should be a little "wireless" icon near the clock in the tray at the bottom right of the laptop's screen. (You may need to click the left-facing arrow to see it). If it is there, double-click it and it will show available wireless networks.

nope no little tv monitor
What make and model is the laptop, and are you sure that it is wireless enabled?

If it is, it sounds as if the wireless isn't turned on (saves batteries).
I mean on the desktop, not the laptop.

On the desktop

Start - my computer -my network places (left hand panel)

Click on the relevant icon and then click 'view status of this connection' in the left hand panel

Now click 'support'

You should see the ip address now

the laptop is advent yes i got all i.p addy now
Hurrah!

Connect the laptop to the router by ethernet and open the router admin page by typing the ip address in the address box (not the search box)

(Unless of course you simply haven't enabled wifi on your laptop; to check:)

Start - my computer - view system information (left hand panel) - hardware - device manager

Scroll down the list, click 'network adapters'; double click on the one that says 'wireless'

That should tell you if the wireless is on or not

o.k im on the laptop now...so now do i just pull the ethernet cable out ant put back into my desktop and then this should work wirelessly
You're on the laptop.

1. Have you checked that wireless is switched on?

2. Have you accessed the router admin page via the ip address?

Question Author
